Officers Campaign Chest - circa 1850
Purchased from the original family Ms. H. Lundall and descendent as documented below. This piece dates to the early or mid-1800s, with original ownership brought into South Africa by the Somerset Family in 1820. The stated ownership in the Somerset lineage by my client was George Somerset Lundall and his Father who was Hon Major General Henry Plantagenet Somerset (Grahamstown) who is very possibly the original owner of this chest - both possibly descendants of Lord Charles Somerset - The First Governor of Cape Town. Ms. H. Lundall is a direct descendant of this historic family and has provided various details on the original ownership of this Campaign Chest.
