A One-of-a-kind masterpiece by a master craftsman. Brought to South Africa in 1905 by a German Couple who lived in Japan form 1897 to 1905, when they set sail to South Africa, making this their home. This intricately carved has many stories to tell on each of its amazing carved panels that feature Windy Mountainous areas, Calm sees, Temples and the iconic cherry blossom trees. Japanese Shadonas historically were made from Elm wood which ensured its overall longevity and strength and this is such an example. Dated to the Meiji Period (1868-1912) this one-off piece was almost thrown away until we rescued it, cleaned it and lovingly displayed for its immense beauty.

A Japanese "shadona" cabinet is primarily used as a display cabinet, designed to showcase small decorative items like art objects, figurines, or other collectibles, often sitting on a table or raised platform due to its smaller size and intricate decorative features; essentially, it's a rare and unique decorative piece for displaying treasured items with a focus on aesthetics.
